Some Things Never Change

" And the little prince said to the man, 'Grownups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always explaining things to them. ' "

[ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "Le Petit Prince" ]

Individuality III

" All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself. "

[ Ralph Ellison, "Battle Royal" ]

Individuality II

" You must have control of the authorship of your own destiny. The pen that writes your life story must be held in your own hand. "

[ Irene C. Kassorla ]

Individuality I

" To be nobody-but-yourself - in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. "

[ E.E. Cummings ]

The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most.

" Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours. "

[ Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged" ]

The Importance of Seizing Opportunity at the Right Moment

" There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. But omitted, and the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, and we must take the current when it serves -- or lose the ventures before us. "

[ William Shakespeare, "Julius Caesar" ]

Innocence Never Lasts Forever .

From mine it's a generation that's circles the globe and searches something we haven't tried before. So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome. Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It's probably worth it.

And me, I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not some place you can look for, 'cause it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever...
